Asma Jafri MD, MACM, FAAFP
Chair

Dr. Jafri is a seasoned educator who has been a Residency Director for over 20 years. She most recently started as Program Director and Chair of San Joaquin Family Medicine Residency in June 2015. She is board certified in Family Medicine and has a CAQ in Geriatrics. Her interest areas are under-served populations and Ambulatory Procedures. She serves on the In-Training Exam Committee (ITE) for The American Board of Family Medicine and the Medical Student and Resident Committee for California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP).

Elyas Parsa DO
Program Director

Dr. Parsa completed his undergraduate studies in Molecular Biology Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois and his medical training at Mid Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lombard, Illinois. He completed his residency in the Family Medicine Advocate Christ Medical Center/UIC, Oakland, Illinois. His areas of interest are women's health, chronic disease management, practice improvement, and procedures. Dr. Parsa is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

Michelle Rowe DO
Associate Program Director, Sports Medicine

Dr. Rowe graduated as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University. She then did a Traditional Internship at the Botsford General Hospital, Farmington Hills, Michigan and completed Family Medicine Residency at O’Connor Hospital, in San Jose, California. After residency Michelle did a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. Michelle is in charge of Sports Medicine and adolescent medicine teaching. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Andrew Smith PhD
Clinical Faculty, Behavioral Health

Dr. Smith is a licensed clinical psychologist, and his clinical teaching focuses on Behavioral Medicine and Physician Wellness. He has been with San Joaquin General Hospital since 2010. Dr. Smith graduated from California School of Professional Psychology in Alameda, California. He completed his postdoctoral training at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa, California. Dr. Smith has held various positions since this time, including as Associate/Training Director of the University of the Pacific Counseling Center and as a co- facilitator of Chemical Dependency Recovery services at Discovery Counseling Center in Danville, California. His main interests are in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Mindfulness- based treatment, and Integrative Medicine.

Imad Kafilmout MD
Clinical Faculty, Women's Health

Dr. Kafilmout is a graduate of University of Baghdad College of Medicine, where he completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency. He is board certified by the Arab Board of Medical Specializations. Dr. Kafilmout received advanced training in Obstetric Ultrasound and Reproductive Endocrine at the University of London, United Kingdom. He completed Family Medicine Residency at West Virginia University, Morgantown and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Kafilmout completed a Maternal and Child Health/OB Fellowship at West Suburban Hospital, Illinois. He is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Academic Medicine at Keck School of Medicine. His professional interests include women’s health, care of the under-served, educational design and innovation.

Bhanu Wunnava MD
Clinical Faculty

After finishing medical school in India, Dr. Wunnava did his residency in Family Medicine at Louisiana State University, LSUHSC, in Shreveport, Louisiana (2004-2007). He joined as an Assistant Professor in Family Medicine department in LSUHSC after his residency and provided full spectrum family medicine teaching. He moved from Louisiana to California 4 years ago and joined Kaiser Permanente in Central Valley and worked for 4 years mainly in the outpatient setting. Dr. Wunnava recently joined the San Joaquin General hospital as a Family Medicine Clinical Faculty. He is board Certified by ABFM - American Board of Family Medicine. His areas of interest are infectious disease prevention, control, and pharmacology. Healthy lifestyle, weight management, diabetes, and arthritis are some other areas of interest. Dr. Wunnava enjoys a variety of sports and writing books on positive energy and the philosophy of life in his free time.

Maureen Abaray FNP

Maureen Abaray, FNP: Maureen was a pivotal team member of the Geriatrics Clinic at SJGH previously and has also been employed by the Health Plan of San Joaquin engaging in home visits for patients with chronic disease. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Her expertise in community resources stems from her residence in Stockton and Lodi for over 30 years. Maureen has language fluency in Spanish.
